Holidays!
Good afternoon my aeronautics enthusisats,
It’s been a very long time since my last blog
and I must say that this is one of my latest blogs. In just one month we will
have finished all my exams and the summer holidays will start also. I’m very
excited to finish the course and start my practises as soon as possible.
During the last weeks we have been doing some
practises related with module 5, digital techniques and module 11. My favourite
one’s have been related with the ones of module 11 which were about the
electrical system of the Cessna 441. I’m really sorry because I couldn’t be
able to make a lot of photos but I will try to show you some images to explain
everything.
The main problem that we have on the Cessna it is that we don’t have electrical power to energize the aircraft. The first thing we did was restoring the batteries and try to energize the aircraft. At the beginning when we connected them, most of the systems of the aircraft worked but the problem came after as the batteries cannot supply electricity during a long time as they get discharged.
Our mission was to supply energy with the
external power connection. We have a battery charger of car batteries that can
supply 24 volt but only 50 amp and the aircraft required 28 volt with 500 amp
or more. As you can see our external power wasn’t enough to energize the whole
aircraft but even though, we managed to connect the battery charger and supply
some electricity to the aircraft. You were able to energize an small amount of
systems but not the entire aircraft, but at least it was better than nothing!
We are still waiting to the school to buy an small generator to be able to
energize the aircraft properly, I hope they bought it soon for further
practises for new courses.
Another practise that we did related with the
electricity was repairing the circuit breakers of the electrical system. Most
of them were a little bit sticky as it been a long time since there were pulled
out or in, so we lubricated them to make them reusable. The circuit breaker is
a protection of the wiring to avoid overcurrent or short cirucuit, that’s why
it is important that they work properly. Some of them were broken so we managed
to replace them and make them serviceable again. We opened one to see why it wasn't working, it was fried inside due to a short ciruit. We changed them with circuito
breakers from the old Coronado which is an aircraft from the 70’s, you can see
that some things don’t change with the years…
Finally, let’s talk a little bit about my eastern holidays. The first days, I had to work at the airport and I must say that some days were extremely horrible as there was a lot of traffic because of the holidays. We were running in all directions during all the shifts. I also had the opportunity to go inside the hangar of Globalia with my father. Notwithstanding, the remaining days I spent them at home because I got covid just 3 days before they were removing the mask in the interiors. The first two and three days I’ve been quite bad but mostly due to mucus in the nose and lungs but it was most like a typical cold.
I hope you learnt new things and aviation and
enjoyed reading my blogs as always. Now it is the last pull for finishing the
course and I hope everything goes well as always.
See you on my last blog and happy eastern
holidays!!
